BUSAN, Aug. 4 (Korea Bizwire)A South Korean research team has developed a flexible self-charging energy storage device that can create and store electric energy using the small muscle movements inside the human body.

A joint research team consisting of five local universities and institutions including Pukyong National University announced on Tuesday that it had developed an innovative energy harvesting and storage integrated device.

Energy harvesting refers to the collection of energy wasted around us and its conversion into useful electric energy.

The research team developed a ceramic-based self-charging energy storage system that can effectively produce and store electric energy using small muscle movements.

The new self-charging energy storage system is thin and flexible, thereby being suitable for use in wearable devices, while being capable of producing and storing electric energy for itself.

Compared to existing batteries, this system features a far higher energy output density, raising expectations that it could be used for a biometric transplant heart defibrillator that instantly requires a huge amount of energy.
