Fyllis H. Burthold

Fyllis Herbert Burthold was born November 11, 1926 in Osago Township rural Pekin, ND. He spent his entire life living and farming in Osago Township. Fyll died Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Nelson County Health System Care Center in McVille, ND surrounded by his family.

Fyll attended rural grade school and graduated from Pekin High School in 1944. As a Pekin Panther he was a member of the basketball team that participated in the state class C basketball tournament in Valley City. After graduation he began his farming career. His interest in farming and livestock continued throughout his life. In 1957 he was awarded the Nelson County Conservation award. Fyll was involved in many community organizations and activities. He served on the Pekin Co-op Elevator Board for many years, the Pekin School Board, and Pekin Lutheran Church Board. He also served on the Farmer's Home Administration Board, and in his retirement he enjoyed daily coffee with the guys at the Pekin Community Center.

Fyll married Ellen Loe on June 16, 1954. They had 6 children Marcia (Leif) Bollingberg, Courtenay, ND, Wendy Carmen deceased in infancy, Liz (Mike) Hagen, Fargo, ND, Matt (Doria) Bismarck, ND, Teresa (Mike Wood) Smith, Mandan, ND, and Rebecca (Steve) Forde, Pekin, ND.

In addition to his wife Ellen and 5 surviving children, Fyll is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Irvin (Barb) Loe, sisters-in-law Astrid Burthold, Betty Anderson, Marilyn Stenberg, Faye Loe, Jeneen Loe, and Jan Loe, and many nieces and nephews.

Fyll was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Clara (Ensrud) Burthold, infant daughter Wendy, brother Miles, sister Mary Ann Flaagan, parents-in-law Lloyd and Emma Loe, sisters-in-law Laurel Kokko and Joy Loe, brothers-in-law Emil "Spud" Loe, David Loe, Michael Loe, Dennis Stenberg, Gordon Flaagan, Louis Anderson, Erik Paulson, and Bill Kokko.

A celebration of Fyll's life will be Friday, October 19, 2018 at 11 a.m. at American Lutheran Church, Tolna, ND with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Pekin Cemetery, Pekin, ND. Memorials are preferred to Nelson County Health Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice.
