GRAND FORKS - A Grand Forks man accused of having sex with a minor had his initial appearance in Grand Forks County District Court on Tuesday.

Dakota Wayne Christianson, 19, was charged with gross sexual imposition, a Class A felony.

A court affidavit said Christianson met a 12-year-old girl at a dance at a downtown Grand Forks park Aug. 18. The next day, the two met at a different park and discussed each other's ages.

Christianson was 18 at the time and he knew the victim was 12, the affidavit said. The following day, Christianson and the girl had sex at her home.

A Class A felony is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

He also faces extradition to Minnesota for violating probation in Polk and Clearwater counties. Christianson was convicted of disorderly conduct and burglary in Polk County and theft in Clearwater County.
