Plymouth Schools Report Six New Coronavirus Cases

PLYMOUTH, MA—Plymouth Public Schools reported six new coronavirus cases among students and employees on Friday in its weekly update on the district's website.

The update confirmed that five students had newly reported cases, bringing the total number of student COVID-19 cases since the schools reopened to 18. Although no students were quarantined this week due to exposure at school, 51 were quarantined because of non-school exposure.

One case among staff members was reported in the latest update, which is the second employee case of COVID-19 since the beginning of the school year. According to the Plymouth Public Schools website, two employees are currently in quarantine due to exposure at school and nine employees are quarantined due to non-school exposure.

"Plymouth Public Schools' top priority is the health and safety of our students and staff," says the district's website. "To ensure we are prepared for all situations, we have emergency procedures in place including infectious diseases. We are working to provide you regular, up-to-date information about the evolving situation. The latest Plymouth Public Schools COVID-19 report put the total number of students at 7,171 and the total number of employees at 1,369. The district reported that 669 students are learning remotely from home and not attending any in-person classes. According to a letter released by Plymouth Superintendent Christopher Campbell on October 8, the district is not currently planning to change its current learning model.

According to Massachusetts Department of Public Health data released on October 22, Plymouth is currently considered a red zone, meaning the town has experienced an average of eight or more daily COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents based on a two-week period.
