Wanted man arrested after tire flies off his car: Brook Park Police Blotter

BROOK PARK, Ohio

Drug paraphernalia possession-driving with a suspended license: Brookpark Road

A Highland Heights man, 46, was arrested at about 7:45 p.m. July 10 after police caught him driving without a valid license on Brookpark.

The man had been involved in a vehicle crash near Golden Auto Body, 15325 Brookpark. As he was driving, one of the rear tires on his vehicle flew off and hit another vehicle. No one was hurt.

The man told police that the vehicle he was driving belonged to his brother. Police checked the brother’s information and learned that he was wanted in Westlake. The man looked more like his brother than the person he claimed to be. The man eventually admitted that he was the owner of the car and thus the man wanted in Westlake.

In the man’s car, police found five crack pipes and a pill bottle containing “fake” urine, which the man said he used to pass drug tests.

Controlling a vehicle while under the influence: Smith Road

A North Royalton man, 40, was arrested at about 3 a.m. July 9 after police found him passed out behind the steering wheel of a vehicle parked outside Planet Fitness, 5855 Smith.

Police noticed a hypodermic needle and a metal spoon inside the vehicle. They woke the man. He stepped out of the vehicle unsteadily. He said he had used the hypodermic needle to give himself a testosterone shot. He said he had pulled over and parked because he was tired.

Police searched the man and found three hypodermic needles in his underwear. In his vehicle, they found another hypodermic needle, a dollar bill -- which like the spoon contained white powder -- and naloxone film, used to treat opioid dependence. The man’s driver’s license had been suspended.

Animal at large: Havendale Drive

A pit bull ran after a woman and her small dog at about 9:15 a.m. July 6 on Havendale. The woman and her dog escaped the pit bull by retreating into their house. The pit bull slammed into the home’s storm door and broke the glass.

The dog, wearing a collar and a red bandanna, had escaped its owner’s yard nearby. The dog’s owner said he didn’t know the dog had escaped and attacked the woman and her dog. He said he would repair the woman’s storm door.

Police issued a summons for the man to appear in court. The case was turned over to the city’s animal control officer.

Disorderly conduct: Shelby Drive

Police were called at about 7:30 p.m. July 3 regarding an unidentified man alarming others by his behavior near Wedo Park.

Witnesses said the man wore black clothes and a skull-face mask. He seemed to hide behind bushes, watching the witnesses. When the witnesses left the park, the man followed them. He hid behind bushes again, then walked away.

As police patrolled the area, a Shelby resident flagged them down. He said he saw the man walking like “a zombie” and assumed he was only “messing” with the witnesses. But then the resident grew alarmed when the man stopped and stared at his house. The resident stepped outside and asked the man what his problem was. The man mumbled and walked away.

The resident followed the man in his car. He lost sight of the man as he turned a corner on Glenway Drive and walked into an area with railroad tracks. Police searched the area but didn’t find the suspect.
