Video: Oklahoma native B.J. Thomas celebrates 45th anniversary of his classic hit '(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song'

Four-time Grammy award winner, Grammy Hall of Fame inductee and Hugo native B.J. Thomas is celebrating the 45th anniversary of his No. 1 hit "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song." 

Written by Larry Butler and Chips Moman, the song reached the top of the Billboard charts in 1975 and was ranked the No 17 top song for 1975, winning a Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1976, according to a news release.

The single invites listeners into a world where love leaves one lonely and the only thing that heals is the sweet simple melodies of a song.

“'(Hey Won’t You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song' was the last song we recorded for the “Reunion” album and I am so glad it was included. It was produced by Chips Moman and the Memphis Boys and is the longest title to top the Hot 100 charts. Thanks for the No. 1," Thomas said in a statement.

Originally entering the Billboard Hot 100 in 1975, "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song," ended up becoming Thomas’ second No. 1 hit. After reaching the top of Billboard’s Easy Listening chart, this classic single solidified Thomas’ place in not only country music, but also in pop music. 

As previously reported, Thomas also is celebrating this year the 50th anniversary of his Oscar-winning classic “Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head.” 

That whimsical earworm was written by the renowned dream team Burt Bacharach and Hal David for the December 1969 movie release “Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.” Propelled by the movie's momentum, “Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head” crossed into a new decade on Jan. 3, 1970, as the first No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, where it remained for the next four weeks.
