While many costumed characters added to their team with themed characters over the years, Spider-Man was a loner for decades with no partners or team affiliations. Things are not the same these days, as Spider-Man has worked with various teams of Avengers and even the FF in the last decade.

The amount of Spider-People has increased exponentially as well, with clones and partners and successors and family all getting in on the spider theme. While some of these new Spider-People come with amazing costumes that we love, some of them don't quite measure up which we'll be taking a closer look at today.

10 BEST: PETER PARKER

It's hard to find fault in Peter Parker's design choices considering his classic red and blue Spider-Man suit is still one of the best-designed costumes we've ever seen in comics. Originally designed by comics legend Steve Ditko, the red and blue is Peter's cushy fallback.

That's not to say he hasn't worn other great costumes, as fans everywhere still claim the Black Suit to be on par with his classic, and the various armors he's created over the years have mostly received rave reviews, making Peter's eye for design a trusted one.

9 WORST: JESSICA DREW III

It's very hard to put Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman on a worst-dressed list considering her first and original costume is so perfect that it screams "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," however, Jessica has been chasing that new costume feeling for a few years now with limited success.

Her last new costume wasn't terrible and updated her classic look well enough despite the fan criticism, but her newest costume that debuted along with her most recent ongoing is not good. It looks sleek and simple, but it loses everything that made Jessica stand out by adapting Peter's red webbed look into the costume.

8 BEST: JULIA CARPENTER

Spider-Woman II when she was a member of Marvel Comics' Force Works

Julia Carpenter was the second woman to use the name Spider-Woman, though she has also gone by Arachne and is currently the second Madame Web. As Spider-Woman, Julia worked for the Commission of Superhuman Activities and worked with teams like Freedom Force, Force Works, West Coast Avengers, and even Canada's Omega Flight.

Julia gained her powers due to an "accidental" experiment from the government, which also provided her first costume that was so awesome it would go on to influence the design of other characters like Anya Corazon/Spider-Girl and even Peter's own Black Suit, which was designed based on his admiration of Julia's costume.

7 WORST: STEEL SPIDER

Brilliant inventor Ollie Osnick didn't begin his vigilante career as the drably-costumed Steel Spider, but instead, he took to the streets as a child with his own pair of mechanical tentacles that he created to honor his hero, Doctor Octopus. However, after he was put on a better path by Spider-Man, his fandom shifted and he dropped his Kid Ock motif.

Ollie altered his tentacles into spider-legs and paired them with a cheap Spidey Halloween costume to become Spider-Kid, though he retired after a few failed outings. However, Ollie would later return as the Steel Spider complete with a literal steel spider on his chest, though his career and this boring costume were thankfully short-lived.

6 BEST: KAINE PARKER II

split image of Kaine and Scarlet Spider

In perhaps the biggest glow-up in the history of Spider-People, Kaine Parker (a clone of Peter Parker) somehow made it onto the best-dressed list after debuting in his first awful costume, which yes, does have a pink cape. He managed to still look menacing while in his villainous role, but we weren't sad to see the costume disappear with him.

Thankfully when Kaine returned he was given a new suit by Peter to wear as the second Scarlet Spider, which he quickly redesigned into one of the best Spider-costumes we've ever seen. The simplicity of the suit replicates the success of Peter's Black Suit, but the red and black gave Kaine his own unique look that we're still loving.

5 WORST: BEN REILLY

Unfortunately, Kaine's brother Ben Reilly (yet another clone of Peter) didn't get either of his sibling's fashion sense, which partially explains his Scarlet Spider outfits. Now don't get us wrong, we have the same nostalgic love for Reilly's Scarlet Spider as some fans, but that doesn't make the costume any better.

Not only would swinging around in a loose hoodie be problematic (made painfully evident when Venom got a hold of his hood and ripped it off), but every tool and gadget he used was on display for the villains to target. And while he never actually wore the new version of the suit due to fan outcry, we had to include the near-disaster of his Spidercide homage as further evidence.

4 BEST: MILES MORALES

Miles Morales Spider-Man

While Miles Morales is now lucky enough to work alongside Peter Parker as Spider-Man, when he first put on the webs (a cheap Halloween version of Peter's costume) it was only after his reality's Peter had died in battle with the Green Goblin. Miles decided to honor the fallen hero and became the new Spider-Man, which eventually resulted in his relocation to the mainstream universe.

Miles was the star of the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse animated film, and while he designed his own costume in the movie, the comic version was actually given his costume by Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D., who probably have a team of superpowered designers working to bring Miles' amazing costume to life.

3 WORST: MIGUEL O' HARA II

Miguel O'Hara is another character who falls on the worst-dressed list due to his second costume, which for someone reason replaced Spider-Man 2099's far superior debut costume. Miggy's first costume may not have had all the high-tech bells and whistles as his second, but it's amazing design managed to stay true to Peter's Spidey while also forging something new.

Ironically, it was only when Miguel was stranded in the present-day that his costume got a futuristic upgrade and redesign thanks to Parker Industries, and the costume might have worked for any character other than Spider-Man 2099. Thankfully, Miguel returned to his original look and has since returned to his home time of 2099, sort of. Time travel!

2 BEST: GHOST-SPIDER

She may be better known to fans as Spider-Gwen, but as that's a killer on a secret identity, Gwen now goes by Ghost-Spider after beginning her career as her reality's Spider-Woman. However, Gwen's costume takes a quick departure from the usual Spider-mold to bring something new and amazing to the table.

Considering that Gwen's costume and web-shooters were created by her reality's Janet van Dyne/Wasp, renowned fashion designer, it's no surprise that Gwen's costume looks as great as it does. Even when she bonded with the Venom symbiote and could create any costume she wanted, she would still return to her classic look that also appeared in Into The Spider-Verse. The speed of which cosplayers took to this costume  shows how good the costume is.

1 WORST: MAX BORNE

Max Borne as Spider-Man 2211 from Marvel Comics

One thing we've learned from the future of the Marvel Universe is that fashion doesn't always move as fast as technology, which is showcased fairly well by Max Borne, better known as Spider-Man 2211. Max is a time cop known as a Timespinner who arrived in the past to capture the Hobgoblin of 2211.

Max's costume features a simplified spider logo that he loved so much he put it on both of his oversized gauntlets as well. Still not sure he's a Spider-Person? Thankfully he comes equipped with four additional robotic arms that he controls with his multi-eyed helmet. We get it, Max. You're Spider-Man.
