Survey confirms women are paid less even in occupations they dominate

Pharmacist is the overall best-paying profession for women, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and the only six-figure occupation where women make almost as much as their male counterparts.

The Census Bureau examined median earnings for women over a 12-month period in 2016, the latest available statistics from the American Community Survey, and compared those occupations with men's salaries in the same fields.

But even in areas where women accounted for 80 percent of the workforce -- registered nurses, clerks, secretaries and administrative assistants -- women were not paid as much as men.
