The Mangaluru city police arrested one more person on Sunday night in connection with the derogatory Facebook posts demeaning Hindu goddess Sri Durga Parameshwari of Kateel and other gods.

MANGALURU: The Mangaluru city police arrested one more person on Sunday night in connection with the derogatory Facebook posts demeaning Hindu goddess Sri Durga Parameshwari of Kateel and other gods.
According to police, they had circulated a look-out notice for Shaffi Beedinagudde at all airports across the country. As soon as he landed at Mangaluru International Airport from Bahrain, he was taken into custody by the police who were waiting for him on Sunday night.
Shaffi is now being interrogated, they added.
Few days ago, a person was arrested from Chikkamagaluru who was used as an intermediary by the main accused to create a fake FB accounts and post abusive messages.
Asked how Shaffi is related to the Facebook posts, police said the former used to comment regularly on such posts on social media.
It may be recalled that several derogatory posts demeaning Hindu gods and goddesses were found on the Facebook profile- Jabbar BC Road. Screenshots of these posts made in October 2015 were circulated on WhatsApp. Several organisations submitted a memorandum to city police commissioner M Chandra Sekhar seeking action. Accordingly, police had registered a case.
