22 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in SD

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Dakota jumped by 22 on Sunday — the biggest increase so far.

There are now 90 cases statewide, according to the South Dakota Department of Health. The number of confirmed cases in Codington County doubled to four. There are still just two cases in Brown County.

There have been 3,127 negative tests so far, with one test pending at the state lab.

One person has died — in Pennington County — and 29 people have fully recovered, according to the Department of Health.

Twenty-five cases have been confirmed in Minnehaha County and 20 in Beadle County.

Gov. Kristi Noem Friday said there will be a special session this week to deal with bills related to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Watertown City Council has passed an ordinance that restricts bars and restaurants to serving customers only via takeout, curbside pick-up, drive-thru and/or delivery.

The Aberdeen City Council has passed first reading of an ordinance that would restrict gatherings of 10 people ore more and require social distancing of at least 6 feet. Final adoption could come during a special meeting Wednesday night. If passed, it would take effect Thursday.

During Monday’s regular meeting the Aberdeen council will debate first reading of a more restrictive ordinance that would require restaurants, bars and entertainment venues to close temporarily in an attempt to keep the virus from spreading.
