This is the First DFB / EA TRANSMISSION Laser wafer which has over 200 laser chips on its surface, designed and developed by British Telecom at their science labaratories Martlsesham Heath Suffolk.
This laser was the first device to transmitt logic to light and then back to logic again being able to transmitt data at the speed of light. This allowed the world to connect all the continents by Fibre Optics cable and allow the people of the world to be able to contact every country and place on the face of the Earth. This technology again is not yet fully applied and will continue to become the main means of communications that is the transfer from locic (electronic language bits of data) to Light (laser light)and back again to Locig. A truly wonderful and world changing developement by the engineers at British telecom.
This is the main driving component for "Fibre to the Home" Every house will eventually have fibre connections for the internet use and many more applications, its main competition is that of the Satalite comms or wireless comunication systems, such as blue tooth.
Once again the UK has lead the way in technolgy applications to change the worlds communication system
