Bauhaus vocalist Peter Murphy hospitalized after suffering a heart attack
Peter Murphy, the English singer of the goth rock band Bauhaus, is postponing his New York residency after suffering a heart attack.
Murphy, 62, was rushed to Lenox Hill Hospital Tuesday after experiencing shortness of breath ahead of his scheduled show. He remains hospitalized, as of Wednesday.
"Mr. Murphy was admitted for treatment of a myocardial infarction. He had two stents placed in his right coronary artery and was started on medications to manage his heart condition," Murphy's cardiologist, Jason Song, said in a press release.
Song added that he's "monitoring … his condition."
Murphy's health scare prompted his team to postpone the remaining dates for his New York residency at Le Poisson Rouge while he recovers.
"All of us at LPR are devastated by this news," the music venue said following the news. "Peter’s performance and presence over the past twelve days has been amazing - both onstage and off. We wish Peter a swift and full recovery and look forward to his successful return to LPR."
The singer's family thanked Murphy's fans for their "undying support," adding, "We hope that Peter will be back on stage with a refreshed heart, stronger than before!"
During his residency, Murphy played everything from his first solo album, "Should the World Fail to Fall Apart," to tributes to Bauhaus and David Bowie.
