Sand mining company brings new jobs to Doddridge, Arkansas

DODDRIDGE, Ark. - A new sand mining company is bringing jobs and economic growth to southern Miller County, Arkansas.

Performance Proppants has been open three months and employs 75 people.

Most of them are from the Doddridge area.

Performance Proppants is located on about 2,000 acres in Miller County.

The site has about 1,200 acres that are suitable for mining operations.

The sand is washed, sized, dried, and then sold of out of state.

"About 90 percent of it is going into Northwest Louisiana for fracking use in the Haynesville Shale. A little bit goes into East Texas," explained Ryan McMaster, Performance Proppants, Director of Sales.

Spring Bank Landing is the only store in Doddridge.

Fire Captain Sam Bumgardner says his son opened the store around the same time as that the company bought the land.

He credits the company for bringing new growth to the community.

"We've got people moving into the area, that people have been moving away from, for so many years. We're very grateful for that. There's a lot of people coming from all over that have participated in supporting the store. I'm happy to see that -- that's what will keep it open," said Sam Bumgardner, Doddridge, Arkansas Volunteer Fire Department Captain.

The Doddridge plant is called River Ridge.

It's the company's second plant.

Its Hat Creek plant in Bossier City opened in October 2017.
