NAGPUR: HCG NCHRI cancer hospital conducted a plantation drive to spread awareness on global warming and educating people on the benefits of having a healthy green cover.
As per Niti Ayog reports, India only has 21.23% land under forest cover against the recommended 33% in the national forest policy. Global warming is the major cause of most of our green cover disappearing at an alarming rate.
Apart from this, more and more trees are being cut in the country daily to make space for urbanization. At this rate, there is a very real fear of losing our green cover soon.
The objective of the drive was to also instill hope in all those who come in search of treatment to the centre. All the doctors and nurses enthusiastically planted saplings all around the hospital complex.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ajay Mehta — Director, HCG NCHRI, said, “I am thankful to all my colleagues for wholeheartedly coming forward for this cause. Along with caring for the environment, we hope that this positive act will inspire our patients to instill hope in themselves, and inspire the next generations. We hope to extend this drive in and around the city of Nagpur shortly.”
HCG NCHRI Cancer Centre offers cancer care with a multi-disciplinary approach through specialist doctors in medical, surgical and radiation oncology and a team of experienced clinicians. The cancer centre is equipped with the most advanced radiation machines and innovative medical technology capable of significantly faster, more precise, image-guided radio-surgery. The Centre also has a bone-marrow transplant Unit with 9 beds, the largest in Central India.
