Laser Spine Institute Partners with Marodyne Medical to Offer the Latest in Low Intensity Vibration Science

Partnership to Bring to Market Innovative Technologies for Patients

TAMPA, Fla.--()--Laser Spine Institute, the leader in minimally invasive spine surgery, today announced it has entered into a formal partnership with Marodyne Medical, a research and development company, specializing in non-drug intervention for illness, disease and injury. Over the past 25 years, Marodyne Medical’s research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Science Foundation (NSF) and other agencies. Over $50 million dollars have been invested over the past several decades to support the basic, applied, translational and clinical science that provide the foundation of low intensity vibration technology.

The first product of this state-of-the-art technology is LivMD, developed from the science of low intensity vibration. The research behind low intensity vibration shows that stimulating postural stability can promote a healthy musculoskeletal system and strengthen muscles. LivMD will be accessible to the general public in early 2013 and will also be offered to Laser Spine Institute patients recovering from spine surgery to promote accelerated healing.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to partner with Marodyne Medical and help millions of people regain strength and stability,” said Bill Horne, CEO of Laser Spine Institute.

LivMD was developed by Clinton T. Rubin, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer and founder of Marodyne Medical. Dr. Rubin is also a SUNY Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

“Because Laser Spine Institute is the leader in minimally invasive spine surgery, Marodyne Medical understands partnering with Laser Spine Institute is the best way to reach the largest amount of people in need of LivMD,” said Dr. Rubin. “We will be working with Laser Spine Institute to make sure this product is available to every person that could benefit from its use and are eager to offer this technology as an additional offering in the postoperative healing process.”

About Low Intensity Vibration

The research behind low intensity vibration has been and continues to be conducted by world-renowned scientists and physicians at major universities and medical colleges both nationally and internationally. Headquartered in Lakeland, Fla., Marodyne Medical has research facilities in Stony Brook, NY led by a team of world-renowned scientists. The company is committed to ongoing and participative relations with the research and user community for LIV products. More information can be found at www.marodyne.com

Low-intensity vibration frequency signals promote the development of adult stem cells into healthy tissues such as bone and muscle, while reducing the percentage of cells that develop into fat tissue. Low-intensity vibration applied to bones and muscle are known to have a positive effect on the quality and robustness of the musculoskeletal system, which is very important to healthy aging. In addition, low-intensity vibration benefits the entire body and is especially beneficial for those with limited mobility.
