2-vehicle crash kills two women and a baby in Douglas County, KS

KANSAS CITY, MO. — Two women and an eight-month old baby died Friday night when two cars collided on a highway south of Lawrence, Kansas.

The crash happened about 6 p.m. on U.S. 59 Highway, when a southbound vehicle crossed over the grassy median into the northbound lanes of traffic and was struck by a second vehicle, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

20-year old Tiffany Cox from Ottawa, Kansas, 19-year old Kiffany Mietchen of Baldwin City, Kansas and eight-month old Azreal Ubelaker of Baldwin City were pronounced dead at the scene.

Northbound U.S. 59 Highway was closed from 650 Road to 1000 Road in Douglas County.

Traffic was diverted onto old U.S. 59 Highway between 650 Road and 1000 Road.

The highway was expected to be shut down for several hours, according to KDOT.
