Virginia E., Lansinger (Evans)

84, of Barrington, died peacefully on January 2, 2022 following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Lawrence M. Lansinger, to whom she was married for 58 years. She was born on February 13, 1937, in Baltimore, MD, daughter of the late Benjamin Davison and Virginia (Hobbs) Evans, and was raised in Summit, NJ. Ginger graduated from Mt. Holyoke College in 1959. Following their marriage in October 1959, Ginger and Larry lived in Akron and Shaker Heights, Ohio before moving to Rhode Island for Larry's career and settling in Barrington, where they resided for over 50 years. Ginger worked at Ohio Bell in Akron and then worked for many years at RISD Art Museum in Providence. She was an active volunteer throughout her life and member of the League of Women Voters, Daughters of the American Revolution, Mt. Holyoke Club of RI and Barrington Garden Club. She served as President of the PTA at Hampden Meadows School where she conceived and orchestrated the first school community fair, which continues to this day. She served Mt. Holyoke as proud Chair of her 30th Reunion. While a student there, she was crowned 'Queen of the Snows' at Dartmouth Winter Carnival, the criterion for which was based on beauty and spirit, unambiguous traits about which she was most unassuming. She was a longtime active member of Barrington Presbyterian Church, where she regularly attended zoom services over the past year from Atria Bay Spring Village, where she last lived. Ginger loved to travel and she and Larry ventured on numerous cultural trips to France, Italy, Sicily, Scotland, Norway and lastly China. Egypt had been next on her list. She leaves her daughter Robin Lansinger of Providence. She was the mother of David Evans Lansinger (1963 – 1981). She also leaves her brother, Robert H. Evans and his wife Priscilla of Hideway, TX, nieces Paige Barriga of Missouri City, TX and Leslie Hemby of Plano, TX and their families and many cousins and family members from around the country. Ginger was a smart, interesting, beautiful woman with a good sense of humor who managed hardships with grace, poise and dignity. Following the unexpected death of her son, she found fulfillment in her faith and with her church family. She cared for her husband through his long health decline in later years with fortitude and strength.

As anyone who knew her, Ginger was not a fan of inclement weather, and thus we will celebrate her life with a memorial service in the spring when we are better able to welcome people. Services will be announced at a later date.

Burial will be with her husband, son and family in Cincinnati, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Barrington Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
