Kalamazoo motorcyclist dies after hitting deer on U.S. 131

MARTIN TOWNSHIP, MI — A man has died after striking a deer with his motorcycle, police say.

Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies responded around 2:15 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, to a motorcycle crash on southbound U.S 131, near Martin.

Preliminary investigation showed the initial cause of the crash was a deer that was struck by the motorcycle, police said.

The driver, a 43 year old Kalamazoo man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger from the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to a news release from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office.

Any motorist that may have witnessed the crash or its immediate aftermath is asked to contact Deputy Eric Speese at 269-673-0500, ext 4373 or espeese@allegancounty.org. The crash remains under investigation.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Gun Lake Tribal Police Department, Otsego Police Department, Plainwell Department of Public Safety, Martin Fire Department, Hopkins Fire Department, Wayland Fire Department, Wayland Area EMS and Plainwell EMS.
