Six Flags Magic Mountain will rename Wonder Woman ride ahead of new superhero coaster

The imminent arrival of the new Wonder Woman Flight of Courage roller coaster will force Magic Mountain to come up with another DC Comics superhero name for the old Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth spinning thrill ride.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is only big enough for one Wonder Woman ride and that means a spinning thrill ride named for the comic book superheroine will get a new moniker to avoid confusion with a new roller coaster coming this summer to the Valencia amusement park.

The Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth ride at Magic Mountain will be renamed and get new theming, according to Six Flags officials.

The innovative new Wonder Woman Flight of Courage single-rail roller coaster where riders straddle a monorail track will open this summer in the DC Universe area of Magic Mountain.

The 1974 Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth centripetal force spinning ride has gone by several names in Magic Mountain’s history — including Electric Rainbow, Turbo and several variations of Gearworks.

A new name and theming for Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth will be announced in the coming months, according to Six Flags officials.

What could the new name be?

Magic Mountain has already used several of the most popular DC Comics superheroes and villains for ride names – including Superman, Batman, Riddler, Lex Luthor and the Justice League.

There are plenty of others to choose from.

The easiest choice: Go with a superhero that has already been used before at Magic Mountain like Green Lantern or The Flash.

The most obvious option: The Joker. The supervillain has a ride at virtually every Six Flags park except Magic Mountain. Some Six Flags parks even have two Joker attractions. Fiesta Texas has a Joker Carnival of Chaos that would be a perfect theme for the Magic Mountain spinning thrill ride.

Joker may be too good of a name for a relatively minor thrill ride — especially if Magic Mountain has plans for another major coaster planned for the DC Universe and Metropolis Plaza themed areas of the park.

Harley Quinn Spinsanity, Catwoman Whip, Cyborg Cyber Spin or Poison Ivy Toxic Spin would also work as new names for the former Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth spinning ride at Magic Mountain.

The unlikely long shots: The Penguin, Aquaman, Supergirl, Bizarro, Dark Knight, Mr. Freeze and Teen Titans.

The new Wonder Woman Flight of Courage single-rail coaster coming to Magic Mountain this summer will be billed as the world’s tallest and longest ride of its kind. The pandemic-delayed coaster was initially set to open in 2021.

Magic Mountain has already removed the 1989 Tidal Wave shoot-the-chutes water ride and 1974 The Flash: Speed Force caterpillar-style ride to make room for the new Wonder Woman coaster.

The addition of the new Wonder Woman coaster in the DC Universe area of the park will also include a new restaurant and bar as well as a retail shop.

The new Wonder Woman Flight of Courage coaster will reach a top speed of 58 mph after climbing a 131-foot-tall lift hill and descending an 87-degree first drop. The ride’s four 12-passenger trains will travel over a 3,300-foot-long track featuring three inversions — a raven dive, zero gravity roll and 180-degree stall.

The Raptor single-rail track by Rocky Mountain Construction employs an innovative new coaster design from the Idaho-based ride manufacturer. Passengers on a RMC single-rail coaster sit in an inline-style train with their legs straddling an I-beam track.

The RMC coaster track layout for Wonder Woman Flight of Courage is expected to stretch from the DC Universe area of the park to Metropolis Plaza near the Justice League 3-D dark ride. The new ride will be flanked by a pair of DC Comics-themed coasters: Riddler’s Revenge and Batman: The Ride.

Magic Mountain’s new coaster is expected to reuse the station house of the former Green Lantern: First Flight, an Intamin ZacSpin coaster that was removed and relocated to Montreal’s La Ronde amusement park.

The Greek-inspired entrance and queue for Flight of Courage will be themed to the hidden island of Themyscira, the fictional island home of Wonder Woman. The queue will showcase the legacy and life of Wonder Woman while explaining how she obtained her super powers.

Magic Mountain has already begun clearing the site for the new single-rail coaster. Support footers have been poured, but vertical construction has not yet begun on the Wonder Woman coaster, according to Screamscape.
