MOUNT VERNON – Robert M. Ryan, 95, of Mount Vernon passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon. He was born in Wayne County, Ohio, to the late Edgil and Ruth (Shaw) Ryan. He was the third child of 10.

Robert honorably served his country as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps. After discharge, he was employed as a mechanic, then worked at the Empire Reeves Steel Mill in Mansfield for 26 years. He then served as a plant manager for Pacific Corrugated Culvert at multiple locations in California. Following that he moved to Lovelock, Nevada, and owned a KOA campground before moving on to Florida. He retired from the maintenance department at the Polk County (Fla.) School System at the age of 80. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion in Winter Haven, Fla. Robert was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Council 847, Mount Vernon.

Robert is survived by his sons, Robert M. (Cheryl) Ryan Jr. of Jackson, MI, David P. Cuevos (Belia) of El Paso, TX, and Michael C. (Mindy) Ryan of Alta Loma, CA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and sisters, Martha (Bernard) Blanchard of Fredericktown and Patricia Mendez of Harrisonburg, VA. 

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Patti (Wallace) Ryan; sisters, Maxine, Mary Lou and Barbara; brothers, Paul, Ernest, William and John; and son, Edgil.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 26, at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the Celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Veterans Council.
