A bicyclist died after a collision with a car early Tuesday morning along Highway 126 in Piru.

The California Highway Patrol received a call of the incident between a bicyclist and a white, four-door sedan on westbound Highway 126 east of Main Street in Piru at approximately 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

The CHP closed the westbound lanes of Highway 126 at Main Street to investigate, diverting westbound traffic through one of the eastbound lanes.

“It’s a minor slowdown,” said Officer Ryan Ayers, a spokesperson for the CHP’s Moorpark Office. “We expect to reopen everything right around 9 o’clock.”

Upon arrival to the crash, responding units were able to confirm the rider suffered fatal injuries, according to Ayers.

The driver of the sedan stayed on scene to contribute to the investigation, which is still ongoing, and was not arrested.

“They did the right thing,” Ayers said. “We do have some information from them.”

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the CHP at 805-553-0800.
