St. Paul RiverCentre will receive $500,000 and the Union Depot $167,000 as part of $4.6 million in relief grants announced Monday by the state Department of Employment and Economic Development, which is also giving out $8.5 million to help movie theaters impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The grants were part of a $216 million economic relief package signed into law by Gov. Tim Walz on Dec. 16.

Fifteen convention centers that met eligibility requirements were awarded grants ranging from $38,000 to $500,000. They include Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minneapolis Convention Center, Duluth Entertainment Convention Center and Mayo Civic Center in Rochester — all of which will get $500,000 each. National Sports Center in Blaine will receive $125,000.

Seventy-three movie theater owners – with a total of 790 screens in 118 locations across the state – were awarded grants ranging from $10,000 to $1.12 million, including Marcus Cinemas of Minnesota and Illinois ($740,000), Mann Theatres ($330,000) and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Woodbury ($100,000).
