BOLIVAR Lock 7 Hair Studio is planning its Second Annual Wigs For Kids fundraiser. It will be held Sept. 8-12 to coincide with Children's Cancer Awareness Month.

Wigs For Kids, based in Westlake, Ohio, is a nonprofit organization that helps children who have lost their hair.

“Our goal is $1,800, which is the cost to make one wig,” said owner Heather Jones. “So essentially we would like to sponsor a child.”

There are several ways to donate.

A Wigs for Kids collection jar is always available at Lock 7.

Hair donations are accepted all year long. The hair being donated must be at least 12 inches long and cannot be chemically treated.

“The cost of a hair donation is only $7 and we will do the rest, including sending the hair to Wigs For Kids,” Jones said.

Raffle tickets will be sold for gift certificates and merchandise donated by local businesses. Tickets will be $1 each or six for $5. Tickets will be sold during business hours at the salon the week of Sept. 8-12. All ticket proceeds will go to Wigs For Kids. You don’t need to be a customer to purchase tickets.

The salon will donate 25% of all haircut proceeds during the fundraiser to Wigs For Kids.

“You can do something as easy as get a haircut and it helps the cause,” Jones said.

She is optimistic that the fundraiser will grow.

“We had a pretty good turnout last year but we are hoping that it will be even better this year,” Jones said. “We plan to have this every year during Labor Day week.”

Lock 7 Hair Studio is at 10880 state Route 212. For more information, call Lock 7 at 330-556-0283 or find them on Facebook.
