Mt. Hood’s Rhododendron rises to top 10 best places in U.S. to buy a winter vacation home

Rhododendron, the tiny Oregon community between Government Camp and Zigzag on the Mount Hood Scenic Byway, is famous for more than being named after a plethora of pretty flowers and its handmade storybook log cabins.

The 100-year-old summer resort colony has blossomed into a popular winter escape, with visitors arriving from the Portland metro and beyond.

Where does this snowy spec stand nationally?

Vacasa Real Estate crunched numbers from its vacation rental income calculator and ranked Rhododendron as the 6th best place to invest in a snowflake-covered rental.

Vacasa Real Estate's report found desirable winter rental homes are not too far from people wanting to escape highly populated areas.

The company that specializes in vacation rental real estate calculated Rhododendron's aggregate cap rate, which is the ratio of a property’s rental income less its costs, at 4.73%.

Other cities in the top 10 were Killington, Vermont (8.31%), Dillon, Colorado (4.92%) and Big Bear City, California (4.11%).
