MEDICINE PARK, Okla. (AP) - A 38-year-old man wanted on a murder warrant in the death of a 2-year-old boy in Norman has been found dead in a southwestern Oklahoma wildlife refuge where investigators were searching for him, Comanche County Sheriff Kenny Stradley said.
Stradley said the body of Christopher James Trent was found Saturday in the Wichita Mountain Wildlife refuge near Medicine Park, where Trent's pickup was discovered late Wednesday.
Stradley said Trent appeared to have hanged himself and his body was sent to the state medical examiner's office.
Trent was wanted in connection with the death Wednesday of the boy who was found unresponsive in the home where Trent lived with the child's mother.
The toddler, who was pronounced dead at a local hospital, had been in Trent's care and showed signs of physical trauma, police said. Trent was not at the home when police arrived, and an arrest warrant was issued for him on a first-degree murder complaint, police said.
The 60,000-acre Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge is a rugged and rocky mixed-grass prairie and home to thousands of bison, elk and longhorn cattle.
