Frenchtown: Barricaded man surrenders to police

FRENCHTOWN – A barricaded and armed man surrendered to police without incident at about 10:40 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Shane P. Lawrence, 45, of Frenchtown, has been charged with four counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and two counts of third-degree terroristic threats.

Though few details are available, the incident reportedly was in the area of Milford Road and 11th and 12th streets. Frenchtown School was on lockdown during the incident.

The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s SWAT Team and the Frenchtown Police Department responded to the scene, with law enforcement officers from the New Jersey State Police Kingwood barracks, Holland Township Police Department, and Lambertville City Police Department responding to assist.

“I would like to commend the law enforcement officers who responded to the incident in Frenchtown this morning," said acting Hunterdon County Prosecutor Michael Williams. “The officers and the SWAT team that responded today train vigorously for situations like this. Their level of competency and commitment to their profession directly led to bringing the individual into custody without further incident or injury. Law enforcement exercised great restraint and professionalism in bringing this matter to a safe resolution.”

The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released when available.
