Illegal electric fence claims man’s life
Krishnagiri: A 38-year-old farmhand was electrocuted in the early hours of Wednesday when he accidently touched the live wires of an illegal electric fence around an agriculture field at Ramapuram in the district.
The Uddanapalli police identified the deceased as K Muniraj, a resident of Ramapuram village. They said the incident occurred around 4.30am on Wednesday, when Muniraj entered the farmland of 48-year-old P Nagaraj for work.
“Nagaraj had erected an electric fence around his farmland without obtaining any permission from the concerned officials to protect his crops from the wild boar raid.
While he had powered the fence at night, Muniraj was unaware of the same. Muniraj touched the live wires when he entered the field in the morning and died on the spot,” a police officer told TOI.
The officer said they had registered a case and initiated inquiry. “Nagaraj managed to escape from his house after the incident. We have launched a manhunt for him.”
He said Muniraj was survived by his 30-year-old wife Pavithra, two daughters and a son. “The body was handed over to the family members after performing postmortem at the government hospital at Hosur.”
