Frisco record store to offer exclusive, limited-edition vinyl for Record Store Day this weekend

Record Store Day has been celebrated annually since 2008.

ZT Records in Frisco will offer dozens of exclusive and limited-edition vinyl at its Frisco Mercantile booth Saturday, in celebration of Record Store Day, which has been recognized annually since 2008.

According to the official Record Store Day website, the event was conceived at a gathering of record store owners and employees as a way to “celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture” of independent record stores around the world. Throughout its 13 years, cities across the nation — including New York City, Los Angeles and Las Vegas — have declared Record Store Day an official holiday, and the event is recognized on every continent except Antarctica.

“This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store — the staff, the customers, and the artists — to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities,” the website states.

As manufacturers and shipping and delivery services begin their return to normal operations, the Record Store Day founders announced two celebration dates for this year — June 12 and July 17 — to allow flexibility for “struggling vinyl pressing plants and distribution companies” and give store owners more time to prepare their budgets and place orders for a “larger than normal release day.”

With more than 160 special and exclusive vinyl albums on the official Record Store Day “drop list,” ranging across several genres and musical eras, Frisco’s ZT Records unboxed its selection in a Facebook Live video on Wednesday. The selection included dozens of standard vinyl albums, a handful of smaller 7-inch vinyl albums and a few cassette tapes.

Among its offerings were The Monkees’ “Missing Links” — volumes 1, 2 and 3 — “Oh Me, Oh My! Aretha Live in Philly 1972” and “Tape Head” by King’s X.
