Coronavirus: Williamson County Illness Count Exceeds 120 Cases

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — The number of coronavirus cases in Williamson County has exceeded 120 after five more patients were added to the count on Tuesday. The new cases bring the total illness count in WilCo to 124.

Williamson County and Cities Health District officials note that 72 patients have recovered from the respiratory illness since being infected by the COVID-19 virus. To date, four people in Williamson County have died of the disease.

The illness per city is broken down, although transmission may have occurred elsewhere:

  • Austin: 10 cases, 8 percent of the total.
  • Cedar Park: 15 cases, 12 percent.
  • Georgetown: 20 cases, 16 percent.
  • Hutto: 13 cases, 10 percent.
  • Leander: 12 cases, 10 percent.
  • Round Rock: 45 cases, 36 percent.
  • Other WilCo cities: 9 cases, 2 percent.

The data also indicate 59 of those afflicted are men while 65 are women, respectively representing 48 percent and 52 percent of the total count.

The dashboard also breaks down affliction per age group:

  • 0 to 17: 3 cases, or 2 percent of the total illness count in WilCo.
  • 18-40: 36 cases, 29 percent.
  • 41-60: 54 cases, 44 percent.
  • Over 60: 31 cases, 25 percent.

In terms of medical treatment, the data show 29 patients have been hospitalized while 93 have not. Those treated in intensive care units number 19 while 15 have been on ventilators, according to the report.

As it relates to acquiring the illness from travel, the lion's share of patients — 96 people representing 77 percent of the total are reported not to have gotten ill as a result of travel, suggesting community spread transmission. The data indicate domestic travel and international travel is to blame for 13 and 6 patients, respectively, having acquired the virus.

Additional COVID-19 deaths and cases will be reported on the dashboard located at www.wcchd.org/COVID-19/dashboard.php, a portal that is updated around noon daily. Cases in "Other cities in Williamson County" column are a combined total that include cities with populations below 20,000 and unincorporated Williamson to protect the privacy of residents.

As they do each time the figures are updated, health officials issued advice: Those with symptoms of respiratory illness — including cough, fever and shortness of breath — are urged to contact their health care providers. But it's important to call ahead before arriving at a clinic, urgent care or emergency department to avoid potential spread, officials added.
