Exhibits encourage more connection
Two new exhibits that officials at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod say “encourage a more intimate connection with others and with nature in this digital age” are on view there during a Saturday open house and during regular hours through April 24. Rochester artist Filipe Miguel’s “Social Dissonance” exhibition features a collection of paintings and sculptures that he says “reflect some of the turbulence found in a growing feeling of disconnectedness even though we live in the age of connectedness. Social media has become our own personal echo chamber of self-absorption.” The national juried “Into the Woods” exhibition showcases the personality of forests and their flora.
When: open house 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday; exhibits on view through April 24 (hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays)
Where: The Cultural Center of Cape Cod, 307 Old Main St., South Yarmouth
Admission: Free

Art/eat talks begin with look at Rhode Island artist
The Falmouth Art Center has four "Art Talks on Zoom" scheduled this month with art historians and artists for what is a virtual replacement for the usual "You Art What You Eat" fundraiser. First up is Tuesday, with Murray Whyte, chief art critic for The Boston Globe, talking about the work of Edward Mitchell Bannister, a prominent 19th-century black artist who was a cultural leader in Providence and helped to found the Rhode Island School of Design. The series doubles as a promotion for local restaurants that have been hard hit during the pandemic. For each talk, patrons are encouraged to separately order takeout from a local restaurant that has created a special prix fixe menu for the occasion.
When: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday; other virtual talks are at the same time April 14, 20 and 29
Where, reservations and information: falmouthart.org
Tickets: $65 per lecture; $150 for all four (the first 100 to purchase tickets get a ceramic vessel and woven square from the art center)
