Best Reindeer Sandwich in Alaska (2017)
When in Alaska, eat reindeer! While not actually native to Alaska — they were brought from Siberia — they have long been an important food source in the state. Most Alaskans no longer rely on reindeer or other game meats for sustenance, but you can still sample some reindeer yourself in the form of a sausage, burger or even a cheesesteak-style sandwich.
10Best and Sandwich America wanted to find the best reindeer sausage, burger or sandwich in the state, and to do so, we joined forces with a local Alaskan food writer and The Food Channel to nominate 20 worthy restaurants and sausage stands across the state. For the past four weeks, our readers have been voting daily for their favorites. The results are in!

Husky Hot Dogs, a New York-style hot dog stand that sets up shop in Fairbanks during warmer weather, has a variety of franks on their menu, including a reindeer hot dog. Diners can top it with relish, onions, sauerkraut, ketchup, mustard or, for an extra charge, house-made chili.

Hungry diners at Quickie Burger in Anchorage have a couple of reindeer options to choose from. There's a reindeer sausage from the Alaska Sausage Co. served on a sweet bun, or they can opt for the Rein of Cheddar, a 1/3-pound reindeer patty topped with a 1/4-pound burger patty, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and chipotle mayo on a sweet bun.

The Loaded Dog, a guest favorite at Seward Brewing Company, features a local reindeer hot dog on a house-made pretzel bun, topped with coleslaw, cheese sauce, Berkshire bacon lardons and whole grain stout mustard. Fresh, warm yukon potato chips come on the side.

Travelers looking to sample some reindeer can do so at AK Alchemist in Anchorage, where the meat comes in the form of a quarter-pound burger topped with lettuce, onion and tomato, or as a hot dog with a choice of toppings. Both come with a side of fries.
