3D printing: magnificent one-off mini printer

I not addicted, I can give up reading about 3D printing any time, said the obsessive.

Well-Engineered-Dice-3D-printer

But until that moment, I feel the need to draw your attention to this beautiful jewel-like one-off piece of engineering.

Called Dice, it is an extraordinarily stiff mini 3D printer, build by Rene Jurack, to print very fast – there is a video of it working at over 800mm/s, in a world where most small printers are doing well to function accurately at 60mm/s.

The website of the Jurack is here.
(from which the image used here was copied – and I will remove it immediately if this causes the originator any grief).

It is a coreXY design, which decreases moving mass by keeping all of the heavy motors on the stationary chassis – at the expense of rather long drive belts. Delta printers are another way of keeping moving mass low.

Motion is constrained by machine tool linear rails.

With incredible generosity, the designer has made design files available – and it looks like he sells specialist parts for it.

Hats off to Rene Jurack.
