On a vote of 2-1, the Mesa County Commission on Tuesday approved a conditional-use permit to allow the building of a controversial solar panel farm on about a dozen acres in Palisade.

As KREX 5 News reported last month, the solar farm will be built by a third-party company which will sell the electricity to Xcel Energy. A large amount of the generated power will be used by the Grand Junction Regional Airport.

The owners of the property where the solar farm will be built say it will have no impact on surrounding land, but several people who live near where it would be built have voiced concerns.

Despite them lobbying to deny the permit, the commission gave the go ahead.
