The Lamar cross country teams got their 2019 campaign underway Aug. 23 in the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede at Penrose Norris Events Center in Colorado Springs.

Lamar sophomore Branden Davis got his season off to an impressive start as he finished second overall with a time of 17:13 in a field of 105 runners in the Class 3A Division.

The individual first-place winner was senior Antonio Marquez of Forth Lupton with a time of 17:06.20. Placing third was senior Joseph Price of University in 17:34.

The Top 10 runners in the race included eight seniors, one junior; and one sophomore (Davis).

Other results for Lamar included senior Ethan Settles, 86th (22:16), freshman Mason Mireles, 100th (27:07.30; senior Chase Cromwell, 101st (27:22); and senior Sam Hillman, 105th, (32.16).

In the boy’s team standings, University was 1st with 44 points. Alamosa was second (111 points) and Frontier Academy was third (115 points). Lamar was 15th out of the 15 teams.

In the girl’s race, Lamar senior Gyazmin Maestas was 55th with a time of 27:45.10 and junior Ashley Gilmore took 68th (32.42).
