Anne Arundel County police said they arrested a Pasadena man after he robbed an acquaintance at knife point in Hanover early Monday morning.

Officers responded around 4 a.m. to the neighborhood encompassing the intersection of Aragorn Court and Baggins Road after being alerted that a robbery had occurred, police said.

Police said a man told officers he was walking to a store with Derek Justin Stumpf, who police described as an acquaintance of the man, when the 19-year-old pulled a knife on him and took his cash.

Stumpf fled toward Ridge Chapel Road, police said.

When officers identified Stumpf as the alleged robber, police said, they found and arrested him in his Pasadena residence.

Police said Stumpf, of the 8100 block of Buttercup Lane, was charged with first- and second-degree assault, armed robbery and reckless endangerment.

His case does not yet appear in online court records. It’s unclear if Stumpf is being represented by an attorney.

Online court records show Stumpf was on probation for at least two different 2018 crimes at the time of his arrest for the alleged robbery. Stumpf pleaded guilty in March to one count of failing to obey an order from law enforcement and was sentenced to one year of supervised probation.

In August, he pleaded guilty again, this time to one count of illegal possession of a handgun, according to online records. A judge sentenced him to five years in jail, suspending all but six months, and five years of supervised probation.
