Bucks weather: Flash flood watch issued by National Weather Service for Thursday

Bucks County Courier Times

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Bucks and Montgomery counties starting Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, said showers and thunderstorms will move through the region starting Thursday morning. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain is forecast to fall in Bucks and Montgomery counties.

Much of the rainfall may occur in a short period of time, leading to the threat of at least localized flash flooding, the weather service said.

Also in the forecast are strong to severe storms, which could bring damaging wind gusts or tornadoes.

Paul Fitzsimmons, weather service meteorologist, said the rain coming Thursday is not like the widespread river flooding event that the remnants of Hurricane Ida caused earlier this month.

“We do have the risk that the rainfall will be heavy enough to result in some flash flooding," he said.

The bulk of the rainfall will be on Thursday and could go into Friday morning, he said.

The flash flood watch will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday. It will go through 8 a.m. Friday.

Fitzsimmons encouraged residents to keep an eye out for weather alerts as the rain happens Thursday.

The forecast comes as the region continues to recover from damaging floods and tornadoes from the remains of Hurricane Idea, which ripped through the area earlier this month.
