Saginaw County reports 9 new coronavirus cases, now 33 total

SAGINAW, MI - There are now 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Saginaw County, according to totals updated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 30, by the county health department.

The total is up 9 cases from the previous number, 24, reported by the Saginaw County Health Department Saturday, March 28.

Bay County now has five confirmed cases as of Sunday, while Midland County has eight, according to data provided by the State of Michigan. Genesee County has 127 cases. Bay, Genesee and Midland counties have not officially updated their totals for Monday as of noon.

Of the 415 tests administered in Saginaw County, 100 have come back negative and results are still pending for 282, according to the health department.

Michigan added 813 more cases Sunday, down from 993 on Saturday but bringing the state to a total of 5,486. A total of 132 Michiganders have died from the virus so far, including 21 new deaths reported Sunday.

The first local death from the virus in central Michigan was an elderly man with severe symptons admitted to McLaren Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant on March 21, according to the Central Michigan District Health Department. The department issued a statement Sunday confirming the man’s death and expressing sympathies.

“This is a tragic reminder of how serious a threat COVID-19 is to our community," said Steve Hall, Health Officer at the district health department.
