Deep Tech – GrAI Matter Labs Raises €13 Million to Bring to Market its Embedded AI Chip

GrAI Matter Labs announced this week that it has closed its latest round of financing for €13 million. The company launched GrAI One in October 2019 as the world’s first AI processor optimized for ultra-low latency and low-power peripheral processing. This new round of financing aims to market this new generation of onboard AI.

Operations were led by iBionext and 360 Capital Partners, joined by Bpifrance, Future Investment Program and Celeste Management. With this new round of financing, aimed at accelerating the design and market launch of its specialized chip for embedded artificial intelligence, the total amount raised by the company in two years rises to €26 million.

The programmable NeuronFlow ™ technology from GrAI Matter Labs enables industry-leading inference latency. Its current GrAI One accelerator chip, as well as GrAI One HDK, are available for product evaluation and application programming. The next full-stack GrAI® system-on-chip AI platform will be a major step forward in visual inference capabilities for the product and robotics, industrial automation, AR/VR, and monitoring markets.

“Completion of this round of financing is a testament to our breakthrough innovation and commercial potential. We are delighted to bring the fastest AI per watt to every device on the periphery,” said Ingolf Held, CEO of GrAI Matter Labs. “This funding will help us partner with application specialists and integrators, and provide our customers with best-in-class visual inference performance, system-on-chip platforms and end-to-end applications”.

“GrAI Matter Labs has demonstrated a unique architecture capability with NeuronFlow and GrAI One – the first silicon-based computing and machine learning architecture based on the teachings of biology and the human brain,” said Bernard Gilly, President of iBionext. “We are excited about the prospects of GrAI Matter Labs and look forward to growing the company into a major success story.”

“GrAI Matter Labs has established a technological leadership position in the rapidly emerging market of advanced computing,” said Dimitri Boulanger, CEO of Celeste Management. “We expect the company to become one of the leading providers of AI computing platforms in segments of this market, which is expected to reach billions of dollars in the coming years”.

“The Edge AI inference market is the most active segment of the AI chip market. GML has developed several innovations that have combined to produce an outstanding artificial intelligence accelerator,” said Michael Azoff, senior analyst at Kisaco Research. “It is the exploitation of parsimony (spatial and temporal) in input data that is the remarkable approach adopted by GML.”
