Sensational ending on final day

The old adage ‘It ain’t over til the fat lady sings’ was never more apt than on the final day of the Ceredigion Bowling Association season when there was a sensational end to the Division One championship race.

Many felt leaders Cardigan would take full advantage of a six-point advantage over second-placed Lampeter by emerging victorious at Tregaron

while very few neutrals believed the Aberystwyth versus Lampeter game at Plas Crug would have a bearing on the destination of the title.

After all it was argued that on the Gwbert Road green last month reigning champions Cardigan sprang a 48-shot win over Tregaron and banked 14

points.

But it was an entirely different story in the return as the northerners turned on the style to win by 18 shots and picked up 10 points with the

visitors taking four.

The looks on the faces of the champions at the end said it all and their disappointment was compounded when news filtered through that Lampeter

had won by 17 shots for an 11-point haul to beat the Cardis for the title by one point.
