Corpus Christi ISD is closing until Tuesday, April 14, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Superintendent Roland Hernandez said in a call to families Wednesday afternoon.

The district may reopen before April 14 if it safe to do so, Hernandez said, but the closure also could be extended, if necessary.

Ed Mapue sanitize a classroom at Atkins Middle School on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. The district is performing a deep cleaning of all campuses and once completed schools will not allow anyone to enter until classes resume.

In the coming days, the district will provide learning opportunities and lesson suggestions for students, Hernandez said.

West Oso ISD also is closing until April 14, Superintendent Conrado Garcia said. Teachers and staff will report to their campuses/departments on April 13. Students will return to school the following day.

Gregory-Portland ISD is expected to resume classes on April 14.

Robstown ISD will also be closed until April 14. Extracurricular activities, practices and sports are canceled during the closure.

To high school seniors, Hernandez said, "I am so very sorry that your final semester has been interrupted. I feel your hurt that proms and graduations may be affected. We still hope that this does not happen, but we must be prepared that it might."

Though schools will be closed, district business will continue, whether remotely or in the workplace, Hernandez said. The district will regularly clean facilities and follow health guidelines about social distancing.
