Police: Man attempts to follow girl home while she was walking dog

The Hillsdale Police Department is searching for a man they say followed a girl home while she was out walking her dog.
The incident happened on Jan. 14 on Hopkins Street, not far from Westwood Avenue. Neighbors say that it is an area that one must go out of their way to find.
Police say that the girl saw the man in a dark-colored four-door sedan driving along Hopkins. Police say that the driver would double back at the intersection of Hopkins and Stever avenues and follow the girl.
Police say that the girl ran to her home and went inside. The driver pulled into the driveway and walked to the front door. Police say that the girl’s mother confronted the man, who then ran off.
Authorities on Friday released a black and white image of the suspect’s car. The make and model are not clear. The man is described as black with a medium build. He is 20-30 years old

Neighbors tell News 12 New Jersey that they are disturbed by the news.
“It’s upsetting that someone invaded the neighborhood. It happened and I’m glad everyone is OK,” says resident Vince McNally.
Police say that the man was not aggressive when he got to the home and calmly walked away to his car and drove away when confronted.
Hillsdale police have increased patrols in the area and are collecting surveillance video form neighbors. Anyone who may have information about the incident should call 201-664-4200.
