Mystery as troop of monkeys are spotted swinging from cemetery trees in Ohio

Cincinnati authorities say that a barrel of monkeys spotted by residents in a local cemetery most likely came from a local residence. 

Sammy Trinh captured video of the five monkeys swinging from trees in St. Joseph's Cemetery at West Eight Street & Enright Avenue in East Price Hill, Ohio. 

Footage appears to show creatures sitting in the tree during the dark night. 

Cincinnati police responded to the scene at around 10pm Wednesday and reported not seeing any monkeys, WAVE 3 reports.

Police added that they are taking the sightings seriously and believe the story is 'real,' adding they believe the monkeys came from a private collection.

Authorities went back to the cemetery on Thursday morning, along with David Orban - director for animal science and strategy at the Cincinnati Zoo. 

'There's not much we can do until we have a confirmed sighting by Cincinnati police,' Orban said, adding that no animals escaped from the zoo. 

Orban said that Trinh's video is too dark and blurry to know for sure if the animals seen are monkeys.

He added that 'numerous types of animals can occupy trees' and that it was hard to determine the size and appearance of the ones seen in the video.  

'Until we are able to identify them in the daylight, it's hard to know. The Cincinnati Zoo will be here to assist and confirm, but at this point we need a confirmed sighting,' he added. 

'If anyone does have a confirmed sighting of these monkeys they should call Cincinnati police.'

Orban concluded that 'as with all wild animals, people should keep their distance. The best thing to do is to call the Cincinnati Police Department and let them know they have a sighting.'
