Two people were killed early Friday morning when their SUV was hit by a car on Route 4 in southern Anne Arundel County.

Leah Mae Foster, 23, of Chesapeake Beach, and Nicholas Raymond Harris, 21, of Lothian, died of injuries sustained in the crash at the intersection with Lower Pindell Road, near the Calvert County line.

Anne Arundel County police said Foster was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox northbound about 12:50 a.m. when she tried to cross over the southbound lanes onto Lower Pindell Road. Her vehicle was struck by a Dodge Charger traveling southbound through the intersection.

Both Foster and Harris, her passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The 25-year-old driver of the Charger, Austin Kirk Smith of College Park, was treated by Anne Arundel County Fire Department paramedics and then flown to an area hospital with serious injuries.

No charges have been filed in the crash, but police said a preliminary investigation showed that Foster failed to yield the right of way. The collision is under investigation by the Traffic Safety Section, and all fatal crashes are reviewed by the county State’s Attorney’s office.
