CLEVELAND, Ohio — Crocker Park’s owners leased more than 47,000 square feet of space to a Texas-based kids’ indoor adventure park operator for a location scheduled to open in December.
Urban Air Adventure Park will be located underneath American Greetings’ headquarters on One American Boulevard at the southern end of the 120-acre outdoor Westlake shopping and dining center. The facilities will be the Dallas-based company’s second location in Northeast Ohio following its opening of a park in Akron.
Crocker Park owner, Stark Enterprises in Cleveland, said in a news release that the facility – which is part of the suburban center’s third development phase – will include wall-to-wall trampoline, obstacle courses, tube playgrounds with climbing ropes and a two-story go-kart track.
Urban Air Adventure Park, which is the largest such park operator in the world, will hire 60 people to operate the new location, according to the release.
The announcement comes as Crocker Park and other shopping centers have suffered because of decreased foot traffic due to the coronavirus pandemic. That decrease was especially pronounced between March and May 2020, when state orders closed nonessential retail businesses and offices, and prohibited indoor dining.
Real estate and loan reporting service Trepp reported in September that the project received a 12-month deferral on a $140 million loan and interest on the development and its 90-day delinquency status was removed.
It’s not the only one, though. A New York lender took control of Pinecrest in Orange in October, and a lender is seeking foreclosure of historic Shaker Square after the mortgage became fully due last year.
Peter Rubin of Shaker Square owner The Coral Co. said he planned to refinance the mortgage but that another lender backed out as a result of the pandemic-induced economic downturn.
