Before you sit down, take notice: HomeGoods, TJ Maxx, and Marshall's has issued a recall for more than 17,100 barstools and chairs people bought between December 2017 and June 2018.
The first recall, which was issued on September 6, was on an estimated 1,100 TJX swivel barstools after the brand received four reports of them breaking. Three minor injuries were reported. "The wood joints on the barstool can break, posing a fall hazard," the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission writes of the stools, which were sold in beige, blue, and gray fabric.
Just over a week later, the U.S. CPSC issued a recall on about 16,000 Jimco Outdoor Folding Bistro Chairs after receiving five reports of the chairs breaking—with one reported injury. The chairs were sold individually at TJ Maxx and Marshall's for approximately $20 between January 2018 and June 2018, and as part of a set (which consisted of two chairs and a table) for $130 at HomeGoods and Sierra Trading Post during the same time period. Posing a similar fall hazard as the barstools, the graywash and teak-finished Jimco chairs were recalled because "the chair's seat can break," according to the U.S. CPSC.
In both cases, the U.S. CPSC advises consumers to stop using the recalled items immediately and call the appropriate store for instructions on how to return them for a full refund.
