SEATTLE, WA — State health officials reported 315 coronavirus cases and 10 additional deaths in Washington on Monday. The state no longer updates its death toll on the weekends, which is now added to the totals reported on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Per the latest data, 74,635 patients have tested positive in the state since the crisis began, and at least 1,915 patients have died from complications linked to COVID-19. The deaths reported Monday included residents from Pierce, Spokane, Clark and Yakima counties.
At least 3,308 new illnesses have been confirmed in Washington over the last seven days, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's case tracker. The number of new cases reported statewide has shown steady improvement in recent weeks. However, much of Washington's counties still show a rate of cases by population much higher than the target threshold of 25 cases per 100,000 residents over 14 days.

King County health officials announced the opening of two new drive-thru testing sites Monday, which aim to serve communities disproportionately impacted by the coronavirus.
The first of the new facility opens in Auburn on Tuesday, situated in a parking lot near a city administrative building. The second, planned in Renton, is slated to open a week later on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Washington's most populous county was also the first known coronavirus hotspot in the United States. The county's south end continues to experience a higher rate of COVID-19 illnesses.
The county expects to have the capacity to run more than 1,500 tests each day between the two sites and will use local labs to ensure minimal waits for results.

Report: COVID-19 likely King County's 3rd most common cause of death
With more than 700 deaths recorded this year, COVID-19 is likely the third leading cause of death in King County, according to an analysis by the Seattle Times.
As columnist Gene Balk reports, deaths resulting from COVID-19 complications appear to have surpassed the number of deaths associated with Alzheimer's, behind only heart disease and cancer, according to the latest available data. In the ten counties with the most deaths linked to the virus, COVID-19 lands in the top three in four counties.
