Livestream concert picks for Sarasota-Bradenton-Charlotte, March 27-April 2

Due to music venues shutting their doors and other social distancing measures to prevent the further spread of coronavirus, musicians around the world are turning to livestreamed virtual concerts on Facebook, Instagram and other outlets. Here are some upcoming virtual concerts by musicians who either live in or have ties to the Sarasota-Manatee area. Devon Allman

Guitarist and singer-songwriter Devon Allman, son of founding Allman Brothers Band frontman and onetime Manatee County resident Gregg Allman, will play a series of themed shows while off the road with his current group Allman Betts Band. “One night will be cover songs, one night originals, one night Q&A live, one night special guests, one night request hour, etc.,” Allman said in a statement. Allman Betts Band also includes Sarasota native Duane Betts, son of legendary Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts, and Sarasota area resident Berry Duane Oakley, son of Allman Brothers bassist Berry Oakley. Ari and the Alibis

Sarasota soul-blues group Ari and the Alibis, fronted by singer Ariella McManus, will continue to perform livestreamed shows on its Facebook page. The band regularly headlines local venues including Florida Studio Theatre and Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, and has performed as part of the Bradenton Blues Festival lineup. Damon Fowler

Former Anna Maria Island resident and blues guitarist/singer-songwriter Damon Fowler continues his “Fowler’s Garage” series, which sees him performing while joined by musician friend guests and sharing stories like being called into George Thorogood’s hotel room to play one of his own songs. This week features Fowler joined by Berry Duane Oakley. Along with being an acclaimed solo artist who released his last album “The Whiskey Bayou Session” on Tab Benoit’s Whiskey Bayou Records, Fowler has also played in Dickey Betts Band and in the supergroup Southern Hospitality with Grammy-nominated pianist Victor Wainwright and fellow Floridian blues guitarist J.P. Ric and Roman

North Port community radio station WKDW 97.5 FM and co-operated venue Common Grounds Meeting Hall will continue to host Saturday concerts, but now without an audience, livestreamed virtually as well as broadcast on radio. This weekend features the duo Ric and Roman, comprising guitarist Ric Saint Germain and blues harmonica player Roman “Chicago” Kuchirka. Kettle of Fish

Sarasota rock band Kettle of Fish will appear at Stottlemyer’s Smokehouse to perform its regular Sunday Funday set, which the band began near the start of this year. The group, fronted by guitarist and singer Dana Lawrence along with several other talented area musicians, is one of the most popular rock groups in Sarasota-Manatee. Steven Paradis

Bradenton guitarist Steven Paradis, who regularly performs at Sarasota area venues such as J.R.’s Old Packinghouse Cafe, will now be playing an online show called “Live from Paradis’ Porch.” During a recent show, Paradis played covers including The Beatles’ “For No One,” Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb,” J.J. Cale’s “Magnolia” and Radiohead’s “Creep.” If there’s a song you’d like to hear, Paradis says he’s taking requests on his Facebook page that hosts the shows. Selwyn Birchwood

Tampa-based guitarist and singer-songwriter Selwyn Birchwood, an internationally touring artist and favorite on the Sarasota-Manatee blues scene, will perform a weekly “The Blues Shadow!” show where he’ll share “some music, stories and positivity with everybody while we are all stir crazy in mutual isolation!” Birchwood has earned back-to-back Contemporary Blues Male Artist Blues Music Awards nominations, as well as a Contemporary Blues Album nod for his latest full-length “Pick Your Poison,” released on esteemed blues label Alligator Records. Twinkle and Rock Soul Radio

Sarasota rock group Twinkle and Rock Soul Radio says they are “shooting for this Friday at 8 p.m.” for their first livestreamed concert. The band is fronted by Schascle “Twinkle” Yochim, who was signed to Warner Bros. in the ’90s, releasing the album “Haunted by Real Life” under the name Schascle. Donations will benefit Mothers Helping Mothers, with virtual tip jar links and other ways to donate to be posted in the live feed. facebook.com/twinkle.yochim

Betty Fox Band

St. Petersburg soul-blues group Betty Fox Band has started doing livestreamed shows in collaboration with DTSP: Saved By Streaming, which has featured performances by numerous Tampa Bay area musicians. The band has proved popular on both sides of the Skyway Bridge, winning multiple Best of the Bay awards from Creative Loafing Tampa as well as frequently performing at Sarasota-Manatee venues.
