Exactly a month after Christmas Day, Michigan’s coronavirus numbers continue on a downward trend.
Michigan now has a 5.9% positivity rate as a seven-day average on coronavirus diagnostic tests, down from 8.9% a month ago.
The statewide seven-day average of new cases is now 1,791, down from 3,311 a month ago today.
There were 1,843 hospitalized with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 as of Saturday, down from 3,204 a month ago. The seven-day average for confirmed coronavirus deaths is now 70 deaths a day, down from 108.
Below is a closer look at the county-level data, based on the metrics used by the Michigan Department of Heath and Human Services in assessing coronavirus risk levels. The scale used by MDHHS has six levels -- “low” plus Levels A-E.
First, a look at the seven-day average positivity rates by county, grouped by the state’s metric.
- Level E (over 20%): Missaukee.
- Level D (15-20%): Keweenaw and Ontonagon.
- Level C (10-15%): Eight counties, highest to lower -- Oscoda, Gogebic, Branch, Hillsdale, Benzie and Wexford.
- Level B (7-10%): 21 counties, highest to lowest --Van Buren, Lenawee, Leelanau, Clare, Monroe, Crawford, Cass, Alpena, Shiawassee, Allegan, Livingston, Eaton, St, Joseph, Saginaw, St. Clair, Berrien, Ingham, Newaygo, Arenac, Dickinson and. Gladwin,
- Level A (3-7%): 38 counties -- Macomb, Oceana, Tuscola, Grand Traverse, Kent, Ottawa, Wayne, Kalamazoo, Ogemaw, Presque Isle, Jackson, Midland, Oakland, Houghton, Calhoun, Barry, Luce, Menominee, Lapeer, Roscommon, Clinton, Sanilac, Muskegon, Ionia, Emmet, Osceola, Alger, Mason, Genesee, Bay, Antrim, Alcona, Huron, Manistee, Kalkaska, Iosco, Mecosta, Montcalm and Gratiot.
- Low (under 3%): 15 counties -- Washtenaw, Isabella, Delta, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Lake, Baraga, Montmorency, Iron, Mackinac, Otsego, Marquette, Chippewa and Schoolcraft
