Explosive materials and suspicious-looking devices found Thursday in an empty Hinsdale house prompted evacuations and alerts at nearby schools, police said.>> Download the FREE WMUR appOfficials said the new owner of the house on Indian Acres Drive called police about 11:15 a.m. after finding the items while doing renovations. As a precaution, about 20 homes were evacuated and students at a nearby school were told to stay inside the building."They've taken multiple items out of the house," said Hinsdale Police Chief Todd Faulkner. "This is a recovery effort. There is no criminal aspect to this, because the previous homeowner is now deceased. So, at this point, there's no criminal investigation. It's just a recovery of items that were left there."The New Hampshire State Police Explosives Disposal was called in, and officials said about 15 items were found that looked like explosive devices, but were not. Investigators found some explosive material that was removed."There were some items in there that they are going to have to dispose of, and they're unlawful items," Faulkner said. "So, they're going to be taking a lot of those items out of the house and disposing of them, but they have been able to render anything that was potentially dangerous safe."Neighbor Melissa Manica said she was told to evacuate. She said she lived across the street from the previous owner for almost 20 years."He was a bit of a recluse," Manica said. "We moved here around 1995. The lawn, the trees -- everything was absolutely overgrown."State police officials said the incident was handled well and there were no injuries.
