Texans, BHP looking for Community Quarterback nominations

The Houston Texans and BHP have partnered to once again to award the Community Quarterback award to outstanding volunteers from local United Way agencies.

The grand prize winner will receive a $25,000 donation in their name to their nonprofit organization, recognition at a Houston Texans home game and a reception in their honor with special Texans guests. Nine finalists will also be recognized, receiving a $5,000 donation to their nonprofit organizations.

The Texans and BHP have granted over $640,000 to United Way agencies since BHP became a sponsor seven years ago. In 2019, Annette Tarver waschosen as the Community Quarterback for her dedication and years of service at Christian Community Services Center (CCSC), a nonprofit that serves the poor, hungry, disabled, and otherwise needy while respecting their religious, ethnic or cultural differences. A $25K donation was made to the organization in her name to continue these efforts.

"Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) has been most grateful for the funds from the Houston Texans-BHP Community Quarterback Award," CCSC Executive Director Michelle Shonbeck said. "We directed the gift toward our basic needs programs which provide ongoing support with groceries, and also assistance with a family's rent when they undergo a one-time crisis. The need for these services has escalated significantly since the pandemic began with CCSC feeding 5X its normal numbers, 40% of which have been children. The rental assistance has been critical in helping those who are suffering from the economic impact of the pandemic."
